A message from SEPTA President, Katherine Harris:
Wow, Arlington really lucked out: the U.S. Department of Education-sponsored national technical assistance center on inclusive education — SWIFT — happens to be holding its annual National Professional Learning Institute this year right here in Arlington at the Crystal City Gateway Marriott on July 21-22!
To encourage Arlington educators (teachers, therapists, principals, etc.) to participate in this event, Arlington SEPTA is offering multiple grants to APS educators to cover the modest cost ($250) of this high-quality training opportunity.
If you are an APS educator (general education teacher, special education teacher, therapist, administrator, etc.) interested in applying for a SEPTA grant to attend this training, send an email by COB Wednesday, June 8, to minigrants@arlingtonsepta.org with this information:
* your name
* your school or program (where you work)
* in 1-2 paragraphs, explain why you’d like to attend this SWIFT training
Why is Arlington SEPTA so excited about SWIFT’s National Professional Learning Institute? This two-day training will bring together hundreds of teachers, principals, administrators, and inclusion experts from the schools, districts, and states that have partnered with SWIFT to make the transformation to becoming fully inclusive schools, districts, and states.
This event is geared to these education professionals sharing stories, experiences, and lessons learned.
This event is also open to the public, and I strongly encourage parents and caretakers to attend if you are available. It is an incredible, relatively low-cost ($250) opportunity right here in our community to learn from those who are a few years ahead of us in the process.
- There are multiple break-out sessions on Administrative Leadership, Family & Community Engagement, Inclusive Policy Structure & Practice, Integrated Educational Framework, and Multi-Tiered System of Support.
- Speakers include superintendents, MTSS coordinators, professors of special education, Title I intervention resource teachers, principals, assistant superintendents, directors of special education, school counselors, student services directors, Universal Design for Learning specialists, digital teaching and learning facilitators, curriculum coordinators, and state DOE officials.
Feel free to pass this information along to Arlington educators you know. I hope we get lots of Arlington teachers applying for these SEPTA grants!
Thanks to Inclusion Task Force’s Tauna Szymanski for alerting us about this promising training. And also thanks to SEPTA Membership VP Caroline Levy for suggesting SEPTA offer these grants.
Take care, everyone!
Katherine
