Creating Predictable Routines and Using Logical Consequences in a Neurodiverse World
Following PTA business join us for a presentation by Ms. Zara and Ms. Keler from LiveWellEd about the importance of predictable routines and logical consequences. Using their expertise from the classroom and outside student-parent coaching, they will present evidence-based practices that parents can use at home and discuss with their child’s teachers about implementing at school. The goal is for participants to walk away feeling empowered with language to ask for what they need in the school system for their child to be provided with equitable, inclusive behavioral structures. Additionally, attendees should feel more confident about using some of these practices at home.
About the Presenters:
Angie Zara is an innovative trauma-informed leader rooted in research, equity, and nervous system regulation. Entering her 10th year in the field, Angie supports her hometown in Washington, DC Public Schools in implementing restorative practices and educational neuroscience through a whole child, anti-racist lens with schools with varying needs of support across the district. In addition to her full time work, she presents nationally and currently serves as an associate faculty for Butler University’s Applied Educational Neuroscience Certification Program under Dr. Lori Desautels. In 2023, Angie co-founded LiveWellEd, LLC which works to support caregivers, educators, and organizations responding to the needs of the changing education system through consulting and coaching.
Nicole Keler is a passionate special education leader with nine years of experience working in the public charter school system across Washington, D.C. She is currently a Specialist on the School Equity and Effectiveness team at the D.C. Public Charter School Board. However, she started in the education system as a special education teacher, then transitioned to working as inclusion manager to support families and students with diverse learning needs on a larger scale. She believes that home-school partnerships are the key to successful student outcomes. Rooted in trauma-informed practices such as Flamboyan and Conscious Discipline, Nicole works tirelessly to engage families throughout the special education process and has created systems to ensure team collaboration during the Tier 1,2,3 process. Her experience inspired her to establish LiveWellEd, with co-founder Angie Zara to bridge school and family best practices.
