In order to remain a PTA in good standing with Virginia PTA we must renew our bylaws every 5 years. Our last bylaws (viewable here) were filed in 2016, thus Arlington SEPTA is required to file new bylaws this year. The draft bylaws, viewable here, have been reviewed and approved by a bylaw committee and a majority of the executive board.
Please note, these bylaws are built on a template provided by VAPTA, and articles and sections preceded by a pound (#) sign may not be reworded. We have kept all information specific to Arlington SEPTA aligned with our 2016 bylaws with one exception. Article 6, Section 5 has been changed from allowing officers to serve up to 2 consecutive terms (each term is 1 year) to 4 consecutive terms (still one year each.) In recent years, volunteers have expressed interest in holding their positions longer because they have moved past the learning curve and would like to put their experience to further use.
As required by VAPTA these bylaws will be available here for 30 days for members to review. At our next meeting on March 11th we will hold a vote to approve these bylaws.
