What is the Special Education Parent Liaison program?
The Arlington Public Schools’ Parent Resource Center (PRC) and the Arlington Special Education PTA (SEPTA) work together to provide a liaison to each school in the District.
- Liaisons support and encourage the flow of information between each of the schools, the PRC, SEPTA and the community.
- Liaisons serve as points of contact for families interested in connecting with another parent of a child with special needs in individual schools.
I cannot explain how valuable SEPTA has been especially during the time when we were going through my son’s diagnosis and I had no idea about where to look for resources and connect with fellow parents who’ve been traveling the special needs journey. Thank you for all the advocacy and hard work that you all do!
– APS Parent
How can I become a SEPTA/PRC Liaison? To sign up, email parentliaisons@arlingtonsepta.org
There are many ways to help – it just depends on how involved you can or want to be! From:
- Sharing SEPTA/PRC information with your school community
- Encouraging the building of school-based positive, collaborative relationships via the planning of social activities (parent coffees, etc.).
- Arrange for the PRC to provide a brief PRC overview at school-based PTA meetings and/or other social gatherings.
- Meeting with school-based administrators in order to generate ideas related to building school community, supporting staff, and helping families connect with special education resources in the building.
